SLAYER hit the stage at 9:39pm and start the set off right with "South of Heaven". They had a great stage setup with 2 massive inverted crosses on stage and a large screen showing various video clips in conjuction with each song that was played. As I am singing along I suddenly notice Tom isn't singing. My first thought was that it was a technical issue. I look around at those near me and no one seems to even flinch. Perhaps it was an early "audience participation" moment? Short stints of silence from Tom continue to plague the entire set?! Has he forgotten the lyrics he has been singing for nearly half of his life? Does he not feel up to par since his gall bladder surgery? Clearly Tom nor SLAYER were on top of their game this time around. The other members were semi lethargic and did not seem as if they wanted to be playing that night. I have seen Slayer each time they have come to Houston since 1992, and I must admit this was the first lack luster performance. I did enjoy the music, presentation, and setlist. I hope their forthcoming effort Christ Illusion doesn't disappoint. Following is some of the setlist that was played. Please don't have a heart attack if I butchered it. My memory isn't what it used to be.
